Another amazing Academy Award Actor Hit the stage at The Paramount, Jeff Bridges and his band The Abiders. Are we seeing a new trend where Academy Award winning actors are showing off their musical talents and touring?
I first got a glimpse into Jeff’s musical talent in the 2010 movie “Crazy Hart” which I really enjoyed watching. If you are a music lover it is a must watch, almost as good as “Almost Famous”.
As I was preparing to photograph Jeff’s performance, I had a few ideas on what kind of photographs I was hoping to create. Lets just say my plan was not going to work and had to change up a few things due to restrictions which happens a lot in music photography.
Hope you enjoyed looking at these images.
Whats there not to like about the chance to see and photograph the Legendary Ted Nugent! Another great Artist/performance at one of Long Island NY’s best venues The Paramount.
The lighting for this show was actually pretty good and very predictable except for the first moment when Ted takes the stage. Very difficult with a tremendous amount of bright backlighting as in the above image. Think I handled it well.
As alway, I try to capture different images than the standards that you normally see. Sometime I get those and sometimes not.
Till Next time

Not sure about you but when I first saw The Dan Band in the movie Old School and then again in The Hangover. I always wondered if they were a real band and how great it would be if they were. Well, they are! What a blast! I really had to try not to laugh as hard as I did during the first three songs.
The truth is, I missed what could have been a few amazing images due to me laughing. Oh well.
Here are a few photographs from that night.
If you get a chance to see them, do so you will be in for a night to remember.
I can not believe I did not post these photos of Taylor Momsen and The Pretty Reckless rocking The Paramount back on September of 2013.
The details from this show are a little fuzzy but…
I just had to post a few images of my favorite images.
Who would have thought that two time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner was also an accomplished musician. Well he is, Kevin and his Band Modern West took over The Paramount last night.
Call it Southern Rock, Cross between Country and Soft Rock what ever you want but all in attendance sure did enjoy his performance.
The rules for this performance was only 2 songs not your typical 3, I really would have liked to photograph the third song as a few opportunities came up that would have been great to capture.
I would go and catch his performance again next time he is in the NYC area and you should too.
Matt Scannell and Vertical Horizon put on a great show at The Paramount on March 7th. Great energy and great stage presence, the fans sure go into them.
The last several shows I have photographed, the quality of lighting has been on the average side. I don’t mean that it was dim or lack of light. During the first three songs, there were only a few instances where the lighting actually added something to the photographs.
Then again, I do Love Black and White photographs ! Hope you enjoy these several photos from that night.
What a great performance by Gavin DeGraw when he played The Paramount in December 2013. For this show there was no pit so I had to photograph from the floor with all his fans. The biggest challenge was not the lighting, it was trying to get the best vantage point with out getting in the way of the audience and blocking their view. If I did happen to get in the way please accept my apology.
One thing is for sure, Gavin DeGraw played to his audience. You can see in the following photographs the connection he makes for a more personal concert experience.
If you gat a chance to see him preform, take it! You will not be disappointed.
It was sad news when I heard Dave Brockie of GWAR passed. I was lucky to have had the opportunity to photograph him and GWAR back in December of 2009 at Irving Plaza NYC.
I hope I am able to convey the excitement I had when I was at Irving Plaza waiting for Gwar to come on. The anticipation was killing me and when Gwar’s stage crew came over to us in the pit with plastic bags and gaffers tape so we can cover our gear, I knew it would be something to remember.
Gabi, a friend and fellow photographer said ” photographing GWAR is like a right of passage for music photographers” and I agree.
We had our typical three songs to capture images but the fans did not allow that. With in ten second of the second song the fans surged, the pit barricade was failing and Security took over, with their backs against the stage and feet on the barricade they tried to keep the the fans from storming the stage. It is a show I will never forget.
Photographing the living legend Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul was a great honor for me. Here is an Artist that has been photographed live so many times over the years by some of the best Music Photographers in the World and there I was. The thoughts racing through my mind were… will I be able to capture something different, that one special moment… And those thoughts got me very excited….
Radio City Music Hall where Aretha Franklin appeared is not my favorite venue to photograph an Artist but a great venue to see an Artist. No photo pit and to make things more difficult it was a seated performance. I was only allowed in one spot kneeling down in the aisle to the left of the stage for the first two songs. Looking over the stage set up as she appeared it proved to be a difficult concert to photograph. In other words I had to wait, I had to wait for her to turn in my direction, I had to wait till she moved to a specific area of the stage where the lights would help to create something special.
As you read this, you can imagine how luck had a lot to do with photographing Aretha live in concert that night.
If any one Knows the Name of Aretha Franklin’s Pianist in the photograph below, please let me know
I can honestly write that I will be looking froward to be able to photograph her again in the near future. That’s all for now.

As luck would have it I was able to photograph Diane Birch when she appeared at Joe’s Pub NYC to preform in front of a sold out crowd. Joe’s pub is small, intimate and not a bad seat in the house; a perfect venue to see Diane up close and personal.
Diane Birch will be Appearing at Le Passion Rouge on Tuesday August 18th, check her out.
Here are a few Concert photographs from that night.
Here are a few quick Promotional photograph of Jesse D, a great Bass player I am sure you will be hearing about in the near future. Normally I would have preferred doing the Promotional photographs with out instruments but with these I knew I had to get the bass in there..
If you are wondering, it’s a Warwick Bass
Bad Company Played the Nikon Theater at Jones Beach… ‘Nuff’ Said!!!!!
